I’ve been helping Wolfgang Palm with adding a new feature to PPG Wavegenerator that allows per-note expression over MIDI by implementing a voice-per-channel MIDI mode. This is a quick test of the first fully working version he sent me today. It’s short, but I hope it shows the possibilities of this feature with new electronic instruments like the Eigenharp.
A downloadable .wav of the audio available from SoundCloud (the YouTube audio compression seems very audible in this video): http://soundcloud.com/gbevin/ppg-wavegenerator-eigenharp
Note that this demo is only using one single sound that has independent expression in three axis for each individual note.
I’m using a modified version of the standard ‘Jigsaw Lead’ patch that has up-down movement mapped to per-note filter cutoff (Y movement in PPG), pressure (X movement in PPG) to note volume and left-right movement to per-note pitch with a 5 semitone interval.
More information about this excellent iPad synth here:

This new feature is probably going to be available as an additional in-app purchase.

For any indoor live show with up to 300-400 people that I nowadays do, there’s always somebody mixing my Metric Halo gear remotely with an iPad. This is of course also applicable to using Stage with EigenD on an iPad. To make this reliable, I simply have an Apple AirPort express that’s connected with an ethernet cable to my Mac. The Airport Express is plugged straight into the power socket, all very nice and easy to set up.
Making the network connectivity reliable did require a bit of setup and some people have asked me for more details. Here are the screenshots of my Airport Utility for that Airport Express as well as the network settings of my Mac.
Hope this is useful for someone.

In my spare time I’ve been working on some agents for EigenD that provide additional functionalities. I created a new section on the wiki for this:
http://wiki.eigenzone.org/wiki/Agents
Currently there are two agents available there, but I plan on working on others:
- Audiocubes: brings native support for Audiocubes into EigenD
- Tabulator: saves the keys that have been played as raw data and as human readable tablature
Any developer that wants an easy place to distribute his agents for free can use EigenZone for this also.
Hope you find these useful.

As you all know, we’ve been extremely busy getting EigenD 2.0 out the door, now that that’s done I’m finally able to set my mind on playing music again for a while.
Here’s a cover of the theme from ‘Game of Thrones’ that I’ve been working on for a while (with very long breaks in between). The cello and the violin you’re hearing are the built into EigenD and tweaked a bit in terms of frequency and convolution. The rest are samples, ‘Epic Toms’ and ‘Requiem Pro’ from 8DIO, I’m also using Mobius for audio looping. All tracks were recorded independently on separate tracks and then mixed afterwards.
Hope you enjoy this version, please share if you do!

Just one day after releasing the EigenD Audiocubes agent, Antonio records a demo that shows some examples of how the colours of the Audiocubes can be controlled by EigenD and the Eigenharp.

During my holidays I’ve been hacking on an Audiocubes agent for EigenD and I’m at a stage where it’s getting close to stable.
You can connect any EigenD output into a cube’s color RGB inputs, and each sensor of each cube can be connected to another EigenD agent for global expression control (just like the Eigenharp’s breath pipe or strip).
The topology output allow you to trigger talkers based on the position of the Audiocubes to each-other. Each topology message sends out a key position and treats each cube/face combination as if it was a unique button you press in a two-dimensional grid. For instance if cube 1 face 3 faces cube 4 face 2, the key position will be 13,42. So the last digit is always the face of the cube and the other digits identify the cube itself. The coordinate is always ordered so that the cube with the lowest number is at the left. Knowing this, it’s then possible to for instance connect the topology output to a Talker agent and trigger Belcanto commands based on the topology of your Audiocubes. You could for instance move the octaves up and down, start or stop the metronome, play recorder takes, … anything really!
You need EigenD 2.0.62-stable to run this agent. Please let me know how it is working out for you!
Here’s the download link for MacOSX:
audiocubes-2.0.62-stable-0.9-macosx
… and here’s the one for Windows:
audiocubes-2.0.62-stable-0.9-windows
After you’ve unzipped the downloaded file, double-click the installer to install the agent on your computer for EigenD 2.0.62.
For the developers out there, this agent is current in the EigenD Contrib repository on GitHub: https://github.com/Eigenlabs/EigenD-Contrib
