Performed by Geek On Acid on Eigenharp Pico, using default drum loops and two ‘Alchemy’ Audio Units. Parameters in patches for both AU were programmed to be controlled by breath pipe, touch strip and key options.
Kayla’s 4th entry to the Eigenharp contest – original song performed on the Pico synced to Boss RC-50 pedal (for vocal looping). “Colour Me In” features on the forthcoming album “Stranger than Fiction”, the first ever to feature the Eigenharp Pico!
I haven’t had much chance to play with the Pico this week due to the relapse that I’m currently in (I have lost most of the strength to my left arm and hand, which I hope is temporary). This is just a snippet from a half hour impro jam that I managed to play today.
Considering I’m going to be hard-pushed to get 6 Pico videos online by the deadline for the Eigenharp competition, this might have to be entered as a competition piece entry, but I hope not.
The ‘electric guitar’ sound is the cello simulator sound going through effects.
This is my third entry for the Eigenharp contest. This song was recorded live routing both midi and audio to Ableton Live, I used my Pod X3 Live pedal board to arm the inputs and its pedal for volume and expression (used in Midi mode), this will be my setup for live situations.
The song was made using the samples and sounds provided by Eigenlabs in the EigenD software, the only external sample (base drum) was made by me using an old drum machine, the rest is what comes in the box, I hope this can exemplify what this incredible instrument is capable of.
My latest experiment on the Eigenharp Pico can be heard in the video below.
I’m trying to establish a groove with layers of live loops of classical instruments and then something radical on top: an electric sitar with controllable delay feedback through the breathpipe.
What do you think, worth pursuing the idea and turn it into a real song with vocals and such?
I might be entering this recording into the Eigenharp Alpha competition also, but I’m not certain yet. Please let me know what your impressions are.
To those of you who are unaware, Eigenlabs are running a competition where they are going to be awarding an Eigenharp Alpha for the best video performance of someone playing the Pico. We are allowed 6 entries each for the competition, and this is my first… I needed to ‘break my cherry’ for the competition :)…. The deadline for entries is the 28th February, so expect some more videos to be uploaded soon.
All of the sounds are produced with the Pico, and I only used sounds that came with the unit (utilising the bundled Alchemy AU for the guitar and flute sounds). The nano pad is programmed to change keys/scales on the Pico, and the nano kontrol is used to operate the live looping software (Mobius).
The piece is a total improvisation, and while I still have a lot to learn with the Pico, I’m starting to become more comfortable with it. And even though the fibro pain is bad in my fingers today, I am still able to play this beast 🙂
Kayla’s third entry to the Eigenharp Alpha contest – an arrangement of her original work “Raindance” (originally for quartet) performed on the Eigenharp Pico.
