I thought I’d let everyone know that I’m working on a detailed review of the Alpha with picture highlights and possibly some video fragments. It’s looking like the text alone will be around 20 pages long, without any of the media. I should be done with it in a week or so, I’m currently about 80% through.
In the meantime, are there any topics that you would like me to cover? Is there something you’ve been wondering about and that you would like a real user to answer? Do you have any particular questions that you would like my point of view on?
Thanks.
Thanks for doing this review. I would be particularly interested in your experience how flexibly external sound generators can be controlled. I understand that the Eigenharp comes with expressive synthesis facilities itself; and that existing protocols to external sound generators such as MIDI or OSC have their limitations, which led to the development of their own protocol and internal synthesis facilities in the first place. Nevertheless, there are so many existing sound generators which sound great but could be played more expressively by a suitable controller — such as the Eigenharp. So, how is your experience, for example, in controlling MIDI gear where all the Eigenharp parameters (i.e. 3 parameters of the keys, breath, strips) are mapped to some MIDI input (probably you will not map the 3 parameters of individual keys to only 3 MIDI parameters in total, but keys should definitely not just work as switches :). Compared with internal synthesisers, do you feel the reduction to MIDI resolutions makes really such a big difference? If you have the opportunity, I would love to hear about your experience in controlling external physical modelling synthesizers that way (e.g., created with Tassman).
Thank you!
Edit: probably you will map the 3 parameters of individual keys to only 3 MIDI parameters in total, but keys should definitely not just work as switches (removed *not*).
Hi Torsten, I’m indeed covering this in my review. Stay tuned, it will soon be published!
Wow, thats a quick reply. Thank you — I am looking forward to it.
Well, I was actually working on the review when your comment came in đ
Torsten, I published the review, hope you find it useful: http://www.eigenzone.org/2010/06/21/eigenharp-alpha-review-after-three-months/
